GoodRx partnered with PatientsLikeMe to incorporate user reviews of different drugs onto our drug information pages. These reviews provide details on effectiveness, side effects, and usage to inform users on what medication is best for them.

Design a new unit for drug information pages that shows aggregated data from PatientsLikeMe user reviews.
Problem
1. Help users find the medication that best suits their needs.
2. Give more insight into different aspects of the medication.
3. Create a more well rounded experience.
Goals
DISCOVER
Before starting the design process we completed a competitive analysis for both direct and indirect competitors to determine what aspects of reviews users find most valuable and what is considered industry standard. This tells us must-haves, what to avoid, and opportunities to shine among other companies.
Understanding our competitors
DEFINE
I created four user personas to focus and inform our design decisions and further empathize with our GoodRx users. Meet Ariana, Scott, Cailyn and Abby!
Who are we designing for?
I also created four journey maps based on the personas to determine areas of opportunity and growth. These have been adapted to be used across GoodRx Health.
Moving forward
Our research informed us of a few clear insights to keep in mind as we began the design process:
We need a clear rating system so users understand the value of each review.
Including ratings of individual aspects of each drug elevates the experience.
Including a ‘reason taking’ section makes the experience more valuable because it focuses the information.
A ‘recommended’ or ‘confirmed user’ tag is an opportunity to put GoodRx above competitors.
DESIGN
We went through multiple iterations of designs for both the data charts and the overall unit.
The design process
After months of research, designing, iterating, and engineering, user reviews went live on the site for hundreds of drugs. We are actively collecting data on the performance of our designs to determine next steps and future goals. Moving forward, we would like to explore the inclusion of individual reviews written by GoodRx users to create an even more thorough experience.
